The plan

More woodland for Boston

Earlier this year, thanks to generous legacies, the Boston Woods Trust was able to buy another 23 acres (9.3 hectares) of land near Westgate Wood. We are calling it Joan's Wood.

It will extend Sir Joseph Banks Country Park and become a community woodland with public access. We are currently in the planning phase, deciding on pathways, parking arrangements and the species of trees to plant.

With climate change in mind, we want to create a "Forest for the future": choosing trees that will thrive as conditions change, and working with the Forestry Commission and the latest scientific research.

The land is purchased with the help of generous legacies.

We announce the news, and invite the community to "Meet the Team" at Westgate Wood car park on Monday 25 May to find out about the plans.
August 2026
The project wins a Pride of Place Impact Award, a real boost for the volunteers and a sign of local support.

Be part of the forest of the future

We are looking for sponsorship and for volunteers. Trees can be sponsored from just £20, and our volunteers work three mornings a week on seasonal jobs to suit all levels of fitness.
